Dear Me

A majority of Hong Kong people experienced pressure in 2023. In addition, on the International Day of Happiness, the United Nations (UN) unveiled the World Happiness Report for 2024. Hong Kong's ranking has continued to slip over the past three years, dropping from 77th in 2021 to 86th in 2024. Solitude becomes indispensable under this high-pressure environment, but individuals start to forget it due to their busy lives. Dear Me is a experience design project aimed to raise people's awareness of solitude and provide an opportunity for them to experience integral self-communication to reduce their pressure. It contains four stages.

WORK TYPE:

Communication Design Final Year Project

Stage One: Promotion

The Instagram page serves two main purposes: to promote the campaign and to provide valuable information related to self-reflection. Regarding the posters, the first features a hazy mirror made with silver watt card, emphasizing the consequences of not engaging in self-reflection. The second poster, with a mirror sticker, highlights the advantages of self-reflection.

Stage Two & Three:
Experience, Record and Reflection

The first design is a leaflet introducing solitude and offering a thinking framework for self-reflection, featuring two pages of stories contrasting solitude with its absence, observed through mirrors. The second design is postcards for recording experiences, shaped like mirrors to symbolize how people often overlook their feelings when down. The third design is a booth modeled like a tunnel, with a transparent cover for inclement weather. Participants can read information on a touch screen, access materials from a table, and use a mailbox to collect postcards.

Stage Four: Practice

The first souvenir is a letterhead, similar to the campaign postcards, designed for individuals to record and release negative feelings while setting goals. It has three sections: “Now” for recording negative emotions, “Hope” for setting goals, and “Future” for reflecting on experiences. The second souvenir is the mailbox packaging, structured to collect the letterhead. It features a drop slot for submissions, a whiteboard for tracking dates and goals, an interior compartment for storage, and a door for easy access. The final item is a manual that serves as an instruction guide for the souvenirs, detailing steps on the left, mailbox instructions in the middle, and letterhead guidance on the right. When folded, it resembles a gift.
